Invitation of Designation (a person is authorized to conduct religious services in a temple) is the Buddhist field personnel arrangement and duties, according to the allocation to do the services. The traditional field of Buddhism, besides the Abbot, did not have the four great Super-intendants, eight Monastic Executives who help the Abbot to arrange and manage the general matters.  Nanputuo Temple as the ten directions of Buddhist field, every first month of the Year (Lunar Calendar) holds the Invitation of Designation.
On 25th Feb, 2016, the tenth day of the first month of Wu-Xu year (Lunar Calendar), at 4:30 a.m. according to the Buddhist tradition, the Invitation of Designation Ceremony was held at Nanputuo Temple. The Most Ven. Ze Wu appointed the designation of Super-intendants and Monastic Executives. Having appointed the position, the great master led great Super-intendants, Monastic Executives and residential monastics towards in front of the statue of the Buddha and worshipped sincerely and made a vow with incense in front of the statue of Wei Tuo (Dharma Protector Skanda) Bodhisattva. At the morning meal, the Most Ven. Ze Wu and Ven. Hui Ran (the Chief monk) appointed the designation (position) for each of Super-intendants and Monastic Executives. At 7:00 a.m. Ven. Fa Wang (Associated Temple Manager of Nanputuo Temple and disciple of personal assistant of Abbot) was authorized by Ven. Ze Wu (the Abbot of Nanputuo Temple) and went to Zizhulin Nunnery (division of nuns of BCM ) to hold the sign plate of invitation of Designation.
“Why does ‘invitation of designation’ use the word of invitation?”
As a Monastic Executive or appoint a position of service, it does not call “promotion” and it uses invitation of designation (service position) because after the monastics were ordained; consequently, they have removed the external conditions and concentrate on practising Dharma. If they are appointed as Monastic Executives, from one of the perspectives when they are doing the services, it might affect their practices. Consequently, the venerable holds the process of “invitation of designation” to request Monastic Executives to protect and serve the monastics.
Invitation of Designation of Ten-directioned Saṃgha, one ought to do his or her best to serve the people
Every monk or nun wants to attain liberation and transcend the sasāra (transmigration) and comes to the temple to practice Dharma. They are not only putting down all the mundane matters and also do not fight for fame or benefit among the Buddhist field. Monastics serve the duties (positions) in the temple and do not have special authority or privilege. Even though the Monastic Executives of the temple have to do the duties or manage the matters, it is a kind of service. At the usual time, together all monastics practice Dharma, recite Sūtra and take meal. They use the same robes and daily products, etc. Besides, they are needed to set an example of moral norm in all the things.
