Drinking Tea (having tea together) is a traditional activity in Chinese Buddhist field. According to the legend, master Hui yuan (the first patriarchy of Pure Land School in the Eastern Jin dynasty) had made tea to entertain his good friends, “Speak about Tea, recite poems and discuss events and scripture from whole night till dawn.” Later, in Song dynasty drinking tea became a common practice and tradition. The Chan master Zhao Zhou had a famous (gong-an) story “Let’s go for tea “which has spread through the ages; this story influences profoundly and everlasting.  In the Chinese Buddhist field, it is not only utilizing Tea to assist practices but also it is a method to calm down the mind process; therefore, it also has a saying “Chan Tea with one taste ( single flavour)”. Every New Year’s Eve, the Tea Drinking and Good Blessing in the evening gathering was held at Nanputuo Temple in order to appreciate the residential venerables and devotees of protection who devote and protect the temple. Finally, the monastics and lay people gathered together to welcome the Chinese New Year.
