A Meeting for Summer Holiday was held in the Lecture Hall of the Buddhist College of Minnan (BCM) on 14th September at 6.30 p.m.. Ven. Master Jing Xin (The Vice Rector and Director of the Office of Student Affairs), Ven. Master Hong Lai (Assistant Rector and Director of the International Division), Ven. Master Chao Bo (Vice Director of the Office of Student Affairs) and Ven. Master Ti Jie (Vice Director of the Office of Student Affairs) as well as other faculty members and all students attended this meeting. The meeting was hosted by Ven. Master Ti Jie.
With the Rector, The Most Ven. Ze Wu’s consignation, Ven. Master Jing Xin suggested that all the students are advised to comply the following activities in the summer holidays: (1) have a trip as you wish ; (2) register for a foreign language course ; (3) learn to play a music instrument or practice calligraphy; (4) read some good books and recite the 14 Chapters of Advice from Patriarch; (5) students who stay in college are advised to study in the library ; (6) visit parents and monastic masters; (7) learn the method of classifying garbage to be applied for the next semeste; (8) pay attention to safety.
Ven. Master Hong Lai and Ven. Master Ti Jie also advised the students to promote and practice the spirit of “Compassion and Wisdom” of the BCM, and strictly follow the Buddhist precepts during this vacation.
In order to strengthen the religious life of both teachers and students as well as to cultivate the religious passion of students, under the guidance of the leaders of BCM, all the teachers and students started their Three-Month Rains Retreat (Varṣa) from 11th May (16th April in Lunar Calendar) with the resident monastics of Nanputuo Temple according to the Buddhist disciplines. During the period of Rains Retreat, all the students who were led by the monastic masters, recited Sūtras and attentively studied and practiced the teachings of the Buddha every day. After the successful completion of the Three- month Rains Retreat, a meeting of summer Holiday was held by BCM.
