The 33rd Teachers’Day Conversazione of the Buddhist College of Minnan

The Buddhist College of Minnan (BCM) held the 33rd Teachers' Day conversazione on 09th September 2017 in order to thank the monastics and teachers for their devotion and work. This occasion was organized one day before the Teachers’ Day. Those who attended the conversazione are Rector, Most Ven. Ze Wu,  Deputy Rector, Ven. Fa Yuan, Ven. Hong Lai, assistant to the Rector and director of the International Department, Ven. Jing An, the director of Teaching Affairs’ Office, Ven. Wu Yuan, the vice director of Administrative Office, Ven. Zhao Yuan and Ven. Ming Kun, the vice directors of Teaching Affairs’ Office, Ven. Chao Bo, the vice director of Disciplines’ Office, Ven. Zu Guang, the vice director of the International Department and all monastics and teachers from both male and female sections of the BCM. Besides, Su Rendeng, the Deputy Director general of Bureau of Ethnic and Religious Affairs of Xiamen and Ven. Ding Heng, the vice president of the Buddhist Association of Xiamen were invited to participate the conversazione. The conversazione was hosted by Ven. Jing An.

At the beginning, Ven. Ming Kun shared her impressions about the visit of the Buddhist colleges and academies in Taiwan with the delegation of the Buddhist Association of China. She said that the talents are the key in making BCM to be globalized and those talents are required to be cultivated among a team of highly qualified teachers. Therefore, she expected that the BCM could provide the advanced study courses and training for teachers and monastics in order to strengthen the faculty of the College to engage in better tutoring.

Then, Ven. Xin Yuan, Ven. Fa Le, Ven. Cheng Gang, Ven. Xin Chan, Mr. Tang Minsheng and Ms. Zhang Hailing shared their experiences of education successively. Some young monastic teachers who graduated from the BCM have expressed their teaching passion and expectations and similar to some of the senior teachers who have taught in the BCM for over 20 years. On the day before the Teachers' Day, these monastics and teachers showed us the true figure of a teacher through their humorous words.

At the meeting, on behalf of the Bureau of Ethnic and Religious Affairs of Xiamen and the Buddhist Association of Xiamen, Mr. Su Rendeng and Ven. Ding Heng saluted all the monastics and teachers of the BCM, acknowledged their hard work and wished the BCM a splendid future.

In the end, Rector, Most Ven. Master Ze Wu provided a summary. He first extended his regards to all the monastics and teachers and appreciated their hard work and dedication. Then he put forward several requirements that he expected all monastics and teachers to have, including right view and profound knowledge, set good examples for their students, find better ways and skills for tutoring the youngests, and devote themselves to academic research work. He expected that all faculty members make great efforts on exploring a new model of Buddhist education in the new era together in cultivating high-quality talents. Therefore, the public can realize that Buddhism has practical value in promoting national prosperity and social harmony.
